This post is dedicated to the Gold Ones—covers with gold in or on them, things that glitter, things that are warm, things that are splendid!

Check out these books with swords on the covers! I want to dedicate this collection to my character Sherakai dan Tameko, who has a (possibly alarming) fascination with swords and other implements of destruction.
In Cover Candy #12 (The One With the Crowns) we’re looking at books with crowns on the covers. Ooo, shiny!
Cover Candy #11 (All Wet) brings us books with water on the cover. We’ve done fire, so it’s only fair, right? There’s nothing wishy-washy about these beauties, though!
Cover Candy #10: (On Fire!) It’s a good thing cover candy isn’t bad for my health, because I consume a lot of covers. With my eyes, that is! I look at covers of every genre, and I am always fascinated by the stories they tell. Do they match what’s inside?
Today, we’re looking at cover candy that’s black, white, and red. Doesn’t that particular combination just scream for attention? And fantasy books do it right!

The ones I’ve chosen this time are wildly different: gritty, whimsical, and classy. They’re all dark-colored (does that make a theme?). I like them for completely different reasons, but I find each of them intriguing. As usual, I can’t vouch for the contents of the books represented below. We’re only here for the eye candy! I think the first cover I recall really falling in love with was the one Michael Whelan did for To Green Angel Tower by Tad Williams. The picture is incredibly detailed, fantastic, and realistic. I still want a print to frame and hang in my office. Creating covers for my own books has given me a new appreciation for the thought and the work that goes into them. I began […]
