September Inspiration (Sailing the High Seas)

How are you doing? Is it Fall or Spring where you are? In my neck of the woods, it’s coming up fast on winter. Monday temperatures around 90°F, Tuesday… 53°. It snowed at my daughter’s house, and she only lives about ten minutes away.

Nighttime temperatures got down in the mid-30s, and my zucchini wilted. *I* wilted! I am not a cold-weather fan. At all. Ever. My zucchini straightened up again and—hey, do you happen to need any zucchini??

Last month I talked about the really tight deadline I’ve inadvertently given myself for finishing Crow’s second book. And I’ve gotta tell ya—the writing got off to a really rocky start. Like slugs. Crawling across a salt field. I was beginning to feel like the effort was dooooomed!

I sat down and had a serious talk with myself. I’ve done this before—both the writing and the struggling to write. But I know what works for me, so I sat down and Did the Things.

And guess what? It’s working.

And I’m churning those words out like a (slightly hammered) machine. I also know (from experience) that the more I do it, the easier it gets.

Sailing the High Seas!

My “September Inspiration” revolves entirely around Crow, the main character from my book As the Crow Flies—a book originally intended to be a standalone novel. I’ve had so many emails asking for more! So here we are. Crowing. (Muahaha! I use that word for a lot of Crow-the-character related stuff.)

This is some of the stuff going on in story: Crow’s “foreigner” friend KipKap, the emperor’s bespelled throne, Marketh City, Masni island (in the Rahiya Strait), Basi Serhat’s stronghold, Crow’s fancy new greaves, diamonds?, and … Gates.

You can see more images I’ve collected for inspiration on this Pinterest Board: Crow’s Nest.

And, of course, we’ve got the main characters traveling with us from As the Crow Flies:
