Are you ready for Five Good Things #8? In Real Life, the Green Gomboo is sticking to me like glue. Luckily, there are more exciting things going on in the world than my slow-as-a-herd-of-snails recovery. Like pre-orders for Tad Williams’ new The Witchwood Crown, which comes out in June of this year. I am eager to return to Osten Ard! Have I got the first book in the new series yet? Well… no, but it’s on my wishlist!
In the meantime, here are some recent good reads in the Blog World:
A Brief History of the Pencil

“What if this thing I love, this strange small thing, could be my job? For Caroline Weaver the humble pencil has provided not only a business, but a book as well.
Book Bundle

For you sci-fi/military reader types, StoryBundle has an appealing collection of books for you. I don’t need more books to read, but I find myself terribly tempted…
Worth Quoting
Atabean Sea

I’m pretty sure that Maxime Plasse is my favorite fantasy cartographer, and he’s done a spectacular job (no surprise there!) with this commission for John Wick Presents for their 7th sea RPG and its sourcebook “Pirate Nations.”
Food Discovery
Have you ever had dry, over-cooked chicken? I didn’t do it! But there was some in my refrigerator, keeping company with some dry baked potatoes. And some leftover green beans.
So what did I do to create a tasty miracle?
I shredded the taters (Yes, of course freshly baked would be better, but you work with what you’ve got!). Buttered ‘em. With real butter. Because I live dangerously like that.
I layered the beans on the taters, then chopped (still dry) chicken. I poured white sauce over the whole thing, then topped it with cheddar cheese. Or you could, you know, make cheese sauce. Details. Either way, it was so good, that we had it again the next day. With freshly baked taters. Yukon Gold this time, because they’re moist and delicious and healthy for you. YUM.
P.S. About The Handmaid’s Tale: book vs. Tv
Have you read the book? Have you seen the television program it’s based on? I loved the book. (Check it out here: http://amzn.to/2bN2JuM) You can read me waxing poetic about it on another Five Good Things. The show… I don’t think I’ll watch any more of it. It’s slow. It can’t possibly present the same sense of urgency, and it has no way to successfully transfer Atwood’s marvelous prose to the screen. I’m disappointed. What do you think of it?
